Hex Dice Tray Magnet Failure

Description

So there are some successes and failures here. The etching here is filled with epoxy mixed with silver mica which sparkles wonderfully, grabbing the eye even in the dark, so that was a great success and a perfect success. The black muffle inside is made with a thin piece of wood that is covered with black vinyl that I was able to easily sandblast a design onto. It works perfectly to keep the dice quiet, and I don't loss the design space, which I would have if I had just used felt, so that's also a success. I had tried with different kinds of faux leathers, which i had read was possible, did not work out. i would like to try with real leather, but it's so expensive to get in black that it's just not doing to be possible atm. The part that I was most excited about, vexed by, and ultimately disappointed with was the magnets. I knew going in that heat and magnets are not friends, but I thought I could still work around it. in the 6 corners where you can see tabs there are small magnets embedded. If I got them too hot they lost their magnetism, but I carefully avoided spending any time on them, just very quick touches. I can stick other magnets to them and get a strong pull still, unfortunately it seems that they somehow reverse their polarities  and will not stick to each other anymore. Sigh. It was great when i had them barely tacked and I could turn the thing upside down and the lid was very securely stuck, I will remember that moment fondly, and maybe one day I can figure it out. In the meantime, i'll have to switch to using a more fitted style lid.
